Smithouse Construction Named a Winner of REMODELING Magazine’s 2015 Big50 Award
Publication names Baltimore-area custom builder a Big50 award winner;
Smithouse among 50 companies from across the country to be given prestigious award
Baltimore, MD (May 14, 2015) – Smithouse Construction, a Cockeysville-based residential and commercial custom builder, was recently named a 2015 Big50 winner by REMODELING Magazine. Smithouse was one of only 50 remodeling firms from across the country to be given this prestigious award.
Every May, REMODELING inducts 50 new companies that have set the standard for professionalism and integrity through smart marketing, exemplary business practices, unique design, and extraordinary impact on their community or the industry at large.
While Smithouse’s company growth and financial success were factors in being chosen as a Big50 winner, it’s the organization’s business practices and charitable contributions that set it apart from other remodelers and builders. Since its inception in 2005, Smithouse has resolved to abide by the Five Smithouse Laws, a set of laws that govern the overall manner in which it conducts business. Among them is Law #2, which is the Law of Value. “Our true worth is determined by how much more we give in value than take in payment,” says Dave Smith, Owner of Smithouse Construction. “It’s at the heart of what Smithouse Construction does for its clients each day and I believe, a big reason for our continued success.”
Smithouse is also passionate about giving back and includes its employees in its charitable work. The company contributes to nonprofits such as the Araminta Freedom Initiative (which educates about human trafficking), the National Fatherhood Initiative, Young Life and other organizations. Smithouse also contributes a thousand dollars toward any organization of an individual employee’s choosing.
Financial factors that contributed to the award includes the addition of a small-projects division to handle the large number of requests for jobs under $100,000 for kitchens, basements and baths, which Smithouse set up last year. In its first year, that division generated $550,000.
This is not the only award Smithouse and its team of craftsman and support staff has won. The ten-year-old company is also the recipient of the HOUZZ Best in Service Award for 2015, as well as the 2015 Southeast Regional Contractor of the Year (CotY) winner in the Entire House Over $1,000,000 category by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI).
“We are very proud of our team here at Smithouse and recognize that their commitment to following the honest business practices we’ve set is a contributing factor as to why we’ve been named a Big50 winner,” says Smith. “We thank REMODELING Magazine for the recognition.”
