Working with Local High School Students
This year, Smithouse participated in a Baltimore Exchange & Congress event for high school students in Construction Management classes. High school students from Owings Mills, Sollers Point, and Edmondson-Westside listened to seminars on different trades in the construction industry. The seminars were taught by professionals in the field, which allowed the students to ask questions to experts in certain trades. The last part of the school day, the students attended a job fair with more professionals in the construction industry.
Lead Carpenter, Mark Passerelli, and Client Services Manager, Maura McDaniels, spent the first half of the morning with the students. They spoke on different wood types and their use in construction. “Understanding different wood properties and characteristics is often overlooked but is very important to building a product that will endure long term”, said Mark.
Smithouse Goes to DC!
Here at Smithouse, we are self-improvement junkies! That is why our Managers recently set off to Washington DC for a one-day EntreLeadership conference. The conference was centered on leading well and being intentional about growth.
The conference focused on:
- Harnessing the best qualities of both your entrepreneurial and leadership skills in a way to cause your business, your team, and your clients to grow and prosper
- Realizing any issues in your organization stem ultimately from your leadership. You are the problem; but, thankfully you are also the solution!
- Win in any business by practicing the Golden Rule

The Red Devils!
The Red Devils, a 501-c3 based in Baltimore, is this quarter’s Hero of the Community! The services they provide for women with breast cancer and their families goes unmatched!
The Red Devils are the living example of going the extra mile. Just a few of their services include transportation, meals, and medical care. They partner with hospitals all throughout Maryland in order to provide care to women in need of some support.
Recently they hosted a “Wine, Women, & Shoes” event to raise support in order to continue their mission. Smithouse was honored to be a sponsor.
Hero of the House
The Unshakable Courtney Smith is this quarter’s Hero of the House!! We call her unshakable due to her ability to keep composure and professionalism in an office full of jokers. Prank calls wont shake her, whoopee cushions don’t intimidate her, pop-out scares can’t break her!
Court’s dedication to excellence, her organization, hard work, and composure are just a few of the reasons she is receiving the coveted quarterly award. We don’t know what we would ever do without our Unshakable, Unbreakable Courtney Smith!!
